What is the value of marriage? How is it different from living with a romantic partner in a committed relationship? Is marriage only a legal matter? Or does it have some personal or social benefit?

I believe that marriage is simply a made up government ploy to add revenue to their coffers. A loving, romantic, committed relationship is a right all should have without the constraints of "marriage".
