Should SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) be supported or opposed?

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) was recently introduced to the US House of Representatives, and many people are urging businesses and their representatives to oppose it. Would the bill promote prosperity and creativity by protecting copyright? Or does it justify internet censorship and cripple free access of information through online media?

My employer is potentially affected by SOPA. When should I judge that it's impossible to do my job without violating rights? At some point I would feel morally obligated to quit rather than supporting regulation. What should I take into consideration while making a decision like this?

SOPA explained for normal people: "If someone shoplifts in your store, this bill allows the government to shut down your store."
