Does life have a purpose or meaning?

Religious people say that God gives their lives meaning, purpose, and direction. As an atheist, what do you think the purpose of life is? Does it have any inherent meaning -- or should a person arbitrarily decide its meaning? And shouldn't life has a meaning or purpose greater than itself?

I always view at it this way: Life should be based on logic, since logic depends on the survival of one's life, a person should pursue to stay alive as long as possible. This is the purpose of my life, however death itself may hold some interesting, unknown consequences and should not be feared.
